Welcome to Honda Accord Keys

The Honda Accord 2011 is one of the most common cars on today's market due to it's careful balance of luxury, reliability, performance, and price. Newer Hondas such as the Honda Accord 2011, 2010, and 2009 come equipped with some special features in their keys that can make it difficult and costly to replace them.

Wave Key and Immobilizer Theft-Deterrent System

The system immobilizes the engine's fuel injection and ignition, and only a matching digital code in the ignition key can override it. When the driver puts the key into the ignition switch, the switch transmits a signal that reads the code in the key. If the key code agrees with the code in the Immobilizer unit, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) starts the engine. Keys without the Immobilizer chip won't be able to start the vehicle but may be able to open some doors.

Valet Keys

Valet keys that come with new Honda Accords contain the Immobilizer chip. If you lose your valet key you will not be able to go to your local hardware store to replace them.

Remote Entry System with Power Window Control

In addition to controlling the power door locks for the driver's and all other doors, this system will also lower all the power windows. This allows drivers to vent the interior of the Accord as they approach their vehicle.

Replacement Honda Accord Keys

You can order replacement keys through your local Honda dealer. The dealer will need your key code to cut the key. If you do not have the key code we first recommend contacting your original selling dealer since they may have recorded this information at the time of sale. American Honda is unable to provide a key code that corresponds with your VIN. If you are still unable to find your key code please contact your local Honda dealer for further assistance in obtaining a duplicate key.

You can also purchase aftermarket keys, often at lower prices, but you will probably need to have them programmed at your local Honda Accord dealer. Some great after market sites are:

Replacing the battery on your Honda Accord FOB

After enough usage the battery on your Honda Accord Key remote can die or weaken enough not to operate properly. Changing the battery is not the easiest thing in the world but will save you a few bucks. Here are the steps to take:

1. Use a small philips screw driver (can usually be found in eyeglass repair kits) to unscrew the back of the key FOB
2. Open the piece that has the lock, unlock, and panic buttons
3. Find the battery and replace it with a new one. It should be a regular watch battery that you can find at your local hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot
4. After you put the new battery in, snap the piece with the buttons back together, put the front and back pieces back together, and put the screw back in and you're done!
